Professional Background

Kwasi Kena is a new addition to the faculty of the Wesley Seminary at Indiana Wesleyan University. Dr. Kena’s diverse education and wide range of ministry experiences make him well suited for the multidisciplinary teaching portfolio. He serves as an Assistant Professor of Christian Ministry. Kwasi’s research interests include: multicultural ministry development, the varying uses of narrative in ministry and the role of music in faith formation.

Ministerial and Professional Background

Prior to coming to the Wesley Seminary at IWU, Kwasi Kena served for eight years as the Director of Evangelism Ministries at the General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church. He also served the General Commission of United Methodist Men as the Director of Field Services and the General Editor of UMMen Magazine. Kena and his wife, the Rev. Dr. Safiyah Fosua, also served as missionaries to Ghana, West Africa, assisting the Methodist Church Ghana in curriculum writing, clergy and lay leadership development and local pastor’s education.  Kena has taught at several colleges and universities.  He is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and has served as a pastor in Iowa, and as the first coordinator of congregational development for the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference.  Kwasi has been in frequent demand as a preacher, workshop leader, and guest musician for national events.

Personal Information

Kwasi Kena is married to Safiyah Fosua, who also serves as an Assistant Professor of Christian Ministry in Worship at Wesley Seminary at IWU.  They have two adult children and are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren. Kwasi spends every available spare moment playing piano and creating new arrangements of familiar hymns and sacred music. He also enjoys photography, creative writing and collaborating with imaginative performing artists in worship.
