Curriculum for DMIN in Transformational Leadership Online Program
YEAR 1
Theory and Theology of Personhood & Leadership
This course is a doctoral-level exploration of personhood, including the self, from the perspective of leadership. Students will examine and deploy concepts related to personhood, with special reference to the field of theology. Students will engage various biblical texts, philosophical works, and contemporary leadership voices for the sake of a diverse view of leadership of persons. Students will learn and practice spiritual disciplines for the purpose of personal leadership development.
Orientation to Ministry Research
This course will introduce students to the purpose, methods, and skills of ministry research. It will give an overview of the DMin project and its processes.
Practices of Personal Leadership
This course is a doctoral-level exploration of the practices of personal leadership. Students will examine and deploy practices related to self- and dyadic-leadership. In addition to engaging various biblical texts, philosophical works, and contemporary leadership voices, students will also perform site visits and case studies for the sake of diversity in practices to be relevant across contexts. Students will learn and practice spiritual disciplines for the purpose of personal leadership development.
YEAR 2
Theory and Theology of Community & Leadership
This course is a doctoral-level exploration of communities from a leadership perspective. Students will examine and deploy concepts related to community, with special reference to the field of theology. Students will engage various biblical texts, philosophical works, and contemporary leadership voices for the sake of a diverse view of leadership of communities. Students will learn and practice spiritual disciplines for the purpose of community leadership development.
Frameworks of Ministry Research
Practices of Communal Leadership
This course is a doctoral-level exploration of the practices of community leadership. Students will examine and deploy practices related to community leadership. In addition to engaging various biblical texts, philosophical works, and contemporary leadership voices, students will also perform site visits and case studies for the sake of diversity in practices to be relevant across contexts. Students will learn and practice spiritual disciplines for the purpose of community leadership development.
YEAR 3
Theory and Theology of Society & Leadership
This course is a doctoral-level exploration of societies from a leadership perspective. Students will examine and deploy concepts related to societies, with special reference to the field of theology. Students will engage various biblical texts, philosophical works, and contemporary leadership voices for the sake of a diverse view of leadership of societies. Students will learn and practice spiritual disciplines for the purpose of societal leadership development.
Methodologies for Ministry Research
In this course, students will evaluate various methods for ministry research. Students will formulate methodologies suited to specific ministry research problems and settings.
Practices of Social Leadership
This course is a doctoral-level exploration of the practices of societal leadership. Students will examine and deploy practices related to societal leadership. In addition to engaging various biblical texts, philosophical works, and contemporary leadership voices, students will also perform site visits and case studies for the sake of diversity in practices to be relevant across contexts. Students will learn and practice spiritual disciplines for the purpose of societal leadership development.
YEAR 4+
Project Courses
The first phase of the DMIN ends when the student’s course work is completed and they defend their Project Proposal. When the proposal is approved the student enters the project phase, where the student and his/her Project Advisor implement the study, gather results and draw conclusions. This second part, where they finish writing a Project, could take as little as a year, although the student customarily has four years in which to finish it.
