    Hispanic Initiative

After consulting with the Hispanic Leadership Council of the Wesleyan Church, Hispanic faculty from different academic institutions and leaders of the Hispanic community in general decided to start a Master of Divinity, primarily online, completely in Spanish, contextualized to meet the needs shepherds and shepherdesses of Hispanics in the United States and throughout Latin America. On Tuesday, July 13, 2010, the seminar officially presented that the Rev. Joanne Walker-Solis would be the Director of Education for Latinos and Latinas.

In March 2011, she launched the first pilot class composed of 10 students. In August 2011, the second pilot group started the Master of Divinity. The pilot project has 15 strategically chosen students who have contributed in shaping the program and curriculum design.

The online program is for students who speak Spanish and come from diverse backgrounds and different Christian denominational affiliations in North America and Latin America. We currently have faculty and students from different parts of the United States, Puerto Rico and Panama. Forward-looking statements include other academic degrees and training programs for pastors and Hispanic leaders.

Indiana Wesleyan University is also moving forward with plans to educate Latinos and Latinas through strategic alliances with the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) and AETH (Association for Hispanic Theological Education).
